Ericshen Cupping Sheet-Metal Tester
Analouge / Digital Models Available

The Erichsen
Tester is designed to test the plasticity of metals. This machine
measures the Erichsen's number of sheet metal to determine its
suitability for press work or toughness thereof. The main dimensions of
the machine and the method of inspection are so selected as to make the
machine quite reliable in its mechanism.
Features
- The pignandle and the intermediate gearing provided make easy pressing and swelling out of the charged sheet metal by the punch.
- It is easy to set the pointer to zero as the top of the punch and the furrow holding plane are always made to coincide by a measurement correction panel.
Measurement of Erichsen Number
Sphere of Application
Thickness of Specimen-- 0.1 to 2.0 mm
Width of Specimen -- 70 to 90 mm
Test Piece
The following three kinds of test specimens are used in ordinary tests
- 70-90 mm Wide metal Trip Sheet
- 70-90 mm Square Sheet
- 70-90 mm dia. circular sheet
Procedure
- Coat both sides of the above specimen with standard Vaseline oil
- Before Testing set the punch top so that it touches the plane with standard test piece and set the micrometer to zero.
- Push the punch as slowly as possible with constant speed .The standard should be 0.1 mm/sec. The machine should be operated at 48 r.p.m by the handle, as the pitch of the screw is 5mm and its gear ratio is 4:1.
- The Erichsen's number is indicated by the micrometer in millimeters from the specimen's holding surface up to the point where first crack is made on the reverse side of the specimen.
- Carefully watch the back mirror while pressing the punch at the given speed by the handle and stop revolving when a crack is observed.
Standard Accessories
- Measurement Adjusting Panel
- Lamp for bright illumination of the Indentation
- Viewing mirror for viewing the crack in the indentation
